Google Reader: Brightkite now in Public Beta

A little after midnight last night we dropped our invite-only status and launched into public beta! I can’t express how excited we are to reach this milestone. Private beta testers, thank you for all your community support and feedback, we could not have made this happen without you.

What does this mean?
Well for starters the open public beta significantly devalued any Brightkite invitations floating around

Invitations are no longer required and sign up is now open everyone. In addition, you can now invite your friends to join Brightkite without restriction.

Even though we are announcing the public beta today, keep watch over the next few weeks for a significant iPhone update, additional mobile support, additions to our API and a host of new features and improvements.

Google Reader: Back-burnered Ideas Get New Life as Random Presentations

Just a quick note that I’ll be doing a quick, five minute presentation to contributors and general fans of Re:place Magazine tonight. The event is happening at The End Cafe on Broadway at 7pm at their Re:connect event. (Short notice, I know.) The event is free though they are asking people to RSVP to get a sense of numbers.

I’m completely stoked to see the other presentations - Bob Hackett from the School of Communication talking about Democratic Media; Andrew Pask (who I just saw a couple weeks ago at Pecha Kucha volume 4) doing kickass work with the Vancouver Public Space Network; Chuck Davis, author of the ginormous Vancouver Encyclopedia and one of the most prolifer contributors to Regarding Place with his A Year in 5 Minutes series; and many, many others doing equally cool stuff.

As for what I’m presenting? It’s all in the title, and aims to continue building more bridges between the mobile / web development and innovation communities, and those thinking hard about public space and transportation in Vancouver, and I will do my very best to keep it to five minutes. I’ll hopefully have some audio to post from the event!
